Roaming ripoff

I went to Minnneasota on vacation and when I was there my phone got cut off and I called sprint from my phone and they said I was roaming while I was there well my brother and his 2 daughters also have sprint and they were not roaming why was I??? I told the represenative at customer service about it and he told me you were roaming I told hime he or another sprint rep. Needed to fly with me to MN and go were I was and see that they wont roam either they finally got tired of talking to me and hung up I now have a 218.00 bill with them and I am not going to pay them if anything they owe me for not being able to talk to my family while I was in MN.
