Regarding Poetry.com. Thank you, thank you thank you. I could not figure it out. I entered the contest only because I need money. And I too fell prey to the possible fulfillment of a dream. Having something I have written published.

I ran across their websit by accident and saw $1,000 for entering a poetry contest. I am not rich and thought why not. I feel my poem is definitely good enough to be published and was excited when they seem to feel the same way.

After reading their letter I became very confused. They did not offer me any money or compensation for using my material but they did want me to buy a book which I thought was really strange. And they wanted me to pay an extra $25 to put a bio of some sort in, which confused me even more. When they didn't even offer a complimentary copy of the book with some sort of royalty or something. I was insulted and even more confused. I just thought, there making all this money off of me and can't even offer a complimentary copy?! It just didn't make any sense. I almost believed it was legit and of course every self proclaimed poet would love to be recognized.

Being my first attempt at anything like this I am very vulnerable, but not stupid. I figured "just this once, get my name out there, you never know what could happen". I was going to let them publish it but had an uneasy feeling that I should pass and that it was a scam. It is. They could careless about the heart and soul people put into their words and are taking advantage of innocent people. They make all the money, we get nothing.

I am sending a letter telling them that do not have permission to use my poem. If I see it in there so called Anthology can I sue them? Because I would love to.in the light of times these days, as americans we should be caring for one another not ripping each other off. It is disgusting to know that there are so many companies in the United States who could give a crap about their own American people.

So much poverty and financial strain on the economy right now. I hope these types of corporations pay someday and pay handsomly. It is just disgusting and embarassing.

Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to share my feelings. I appreciate your taking the time to put this information out there. The letter came yesterday and I haven't signed it yet. It really bums me out though. I think its really unfair for them to toy with peoples writings and emotions like that. It is really kind of depressing to find out that I am not special and mine really wasn't choosen because of its quality. That really sucks!
