West Star Telecom Ripoff Billing Erro

My Jul '05 SBC phone bill arrived with a $15.82 charge from West Star Telecom. This call is in error. It was allegedly placed to a number in Mexico (52-622-2221). I don't believe this is a real number, because it doesn't have enough digits.

I called the customer service number on the top of my bill (800-295-3933), and was answered by a woman with a heavy latin accent who asked my for my phone number, which immediately made me suspicious. I asked her if I was being charged for the current call. She put me on hold for a minute or so, then came back on the line and told me yes, I was being charged for the current call.

I immediately hung up and called the SBC business office, which unfortunately was closed. I then called 611, where an SBC representative told me that yes, I could be charged for calls to 800 numbers. However, when I called th 00 operator, she assured me that it isn't possible to be charged for calls to 800 numbers.

I'll keep you posted as this develops...
