Ripoff - No Show on Moving Date - Keeping my DEPOSIT MONEY

My husband and I are moving from Chicago to Atlanta. We contracted the services of Nationwide Relocation Services for the move. Before they selected a carrier, they gave us a two day pick-up window, promising that a week in advance they would choose a specific day. This was very important to us as we live in a high rise building and move-outs require the scheduling of the freight elevator well in advance.

They committed a carrier to a pick-up date of July 22. The carrier never showed up. There were no phone calls to us to let us know that there were any problems. After we called Nationwide 4 times, we finally got a live person to speak with. We were told that we were on the top of the priority list for a pick-up the next day. This would no longer work because our building's freight elevator was booked. I explained this to them and their response was "We have a two day window to make the pick-up and we are still within the contract."

My thinking is that once you narrow the 2 day window, commit to a one-day window and don't show up or call to reschedule, you have violated the contract. They want to keep our deposit even though they never showed up to move us. They believe WE broke the contract by not being available the second day.in fact, we are in Atlanta now, trying to coordinate a reputable mover long distance, with none of our belongings here. It has been a nightmare.
