Unauthorized Charges for Internet Voice Mail on phone bill (Qwest)

Charges appeared on my phone bill (Qwest) for setup for "national voice mail". Calling the number informed me that they only have office hours when I'm working.

Qwest customer service can't help. They said they're legally obligated by the FCC to add these charges.interesting, though, that I had to answer 5 personal questions just to *ask* about my account. They could bill it without any authorization at all. I will say, though, that she was very nice, very helpful, and she did credit the charge back. It's not her fault, and I know that.

I filled in a contact form on their web site and they said it would be up to 72 hours before I hear back. I'm wondering how many calls I've missed because they were intercepted by this "service". Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't know how to access it. And, I Don't Want To!!!

Where is the agreement and notification that I ever got this? Where is the authorization for it? Why have I had a month of possible interference without choice?

I wrote to the state Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division. We'll see. They are usually very good at things like that. I'll also try the suggestion to see if I can get 3rd party billing blocked, but why do *I* have to jump through these hoops to keep someone from "giving" me something I don't want? Aargh.

I think my senator will get the next letter.
