Viatel
Bogus collection notice from Business Office Systems & Solutions

I strongly suspect a ripoff, but I dont' know if it's from Viatel, a telecom company in the UK, or by Business Office Systems & Solutions, a collection agency in Midland TX.

I received a collection notice from BOS&S on 3/29/05 stating I owed them $27.53 for an account with Viatel.

I have no recollection of every doing business with a Viatel.

I called the collection agency and they claim that
a) Viatel sent me a service cancellation notice on Aug 15,1999!!! Because I hadn't paid my bill of $19.95
b) In Aug, I received a notice stating Viatel had gone bankrupt and their creditors were referred to an agency for collection.

I don't ever recall receiving either letter, but I could be wrong, as this allegedly happend over 5 years ago.

I sent a letter to BS&S Legal Dept today requesting a Viatel invoice as well as proof that I switched service to Viatel (at some point a Federal regulation required telecom service providers to get written approval or third party approval to switch consumer's service)
