Ripoff I let SBC steal from my pocket about $500 for just about nothing but the bad experience

I just want to tell my bad experience with SBC DSL, with the full intention of forgetting about it.

Initially I tried to sign on early last year through their web site, but it was very difficult to get through. So when the patience ran thin, I called them and signed on for 5 bucks more (than the web rate, then @ $29.99) each month.

The service was unreliable (to the extent of unusable) and slow (20 kB/sec D/L speed). I wanted to cancel it but didn't because of the penality associated with the one-year contract. I complained to them couple times, getting such typical bureaucratic replies as line noise associated with inteference with the regular phone service.

One year term was approaching so I called them to cancel it at little less than one month ahead of the anniversary date. The last bill I saw, they slammed a $200 early cancellation fee on top the service charge for the 12th month, which makes no sense. I called them but they told me that I had canceled about a month ahead one year. Bullsh*!

In summary, I let SBC steal from my pocket about $500 for just about nothing but the bad experience. Now I rid of all SBC services to my place. There are alternatives serving me better! I wish I could say I'd never buy any service from SBC ever again, but they are getting bigger and bigger, so who knows if anyone would be able to escape them completely because they may someday swallow the companies offerring the alternatives or may be involved directly or indirectly with the financing and/or operation of the alternative companies.
