Shoes are too painful to wea

I purchased a size 9 to have a looser fit and the shoe was too painful to wear. Exchanged for a size 9 1/2. I normally purchase an 8 1/2 or size nine. After wearing the shoe while gettimg dressed i noticed it was very snug.By the time i reached my destination and walked to my seat for dinner my feet were hurting. There is no way i should need to purchase a 10! Two sizes bigger. The sole is so thin it feels like bone hitting concrete. I am very dissatisfied.
