I used my telephone service through Shur-Tel for four years (1999). I had a monthly payment $68.00 with all services except long distance. I moved into a senior building which Shur-Tel transferred my phone in February. I waited 2 weeks without a phone & went back to Shur-Tel & I was on the computer with a transfer to new residence. March 13, I went back & they gave me another tx# to call. SBC answered & apologized informing me that they owned Shur-Tel which had been closed. I ordered their service with no long distance, no call waiting, no ID caller, unlimited local calls. My first showed call waiting, ID caller, name display, & long distance. I called requesting removal of this plan. They promised to send repairman to remove. No one ever showed. I called again April, May, June, July, August with no response. One lady called herself fixing it from the office. Still, the same.in August, my bill was $359. I called & ordered long distance removed, paid bill 8/25/04. I received a letter verifying change 8/25/04.in September, I received another bill for $299. When I called, I was told to have $250 paid by 9/25/04. I called the State Utility Public Commission, I didn't pay the next bill, told them to cut off phone. I received another bill $284. The lady from SBC said she had a recording removing the block from my phone 8/26/04, which I didn't make. I owe them $294. & where I live I must have a phone for entrance. They have bought all the lines in the city of Lansing MI so they can & do block any other phone companies from offering better service to us. I need this phone because I have diabetes & neuropathy caused from diabetes for 50 years. Everyone in this building is senior & handicapped. Is there anything or anybody that can stop this?
