On 10/18/04, I placed an order valued at $41.58 with Booksamillion. Their own order status online says it was shipped 10/19/04. I placed another order valued at $25.67 on 10/22/04. Their order status states it was shipped on 10/27/04. (First problem - when I ordered, their page said shipping takes 2-3 days for instock items, which these were. These took five days.)

Being that we are military at an APO, shipments from BAMM usually take about two weeks. After a month of no books, I emailed to find out the order status. This is the response I received:

Upon researching the order referenced below, I found that the order is now late and/or lost in the mail. Please accept our sincere apologies for that. The standard time frame for shipping to an APO or FPO
address is up to 3 weeks. This order was shipped from our warehouse 4 weeks ago. I would like to give you the option as to whether you would like us to reship these items or issue credit for them. Again I apologize
for any inconvenience you have experienced with our service.

I emailed back right away asking how it could be that TWO boxes had been lost. This was the reply I got back:

Dear Kelley,

Thank you for your email to Booksamillion.com Customer Support. Order
2980890385929 and 2984955476537 shipped on 10/27/04 less than a month ago. Since both orders shipped to a APO address the orders may just may be delayed. I find it hard to believe that both orders have been lost.

A couple of things about that reply bothered me. First, Ms. Eunice Berry says that both orders were shipped on 10/27/04. Huh? That isn't what BAMM's own order status says. (THIS has happened before and they "rewarded" me with a $10 gift certificate) Then, Ms. Eunice Berry says quite sarcastically "they MAY JUST MAY" be delayed. Also, it was more than a month when I contacted her, not less.

I emailed Ms. Berry back asking if she had read what her associate had written about these being lost. I advised that I did not wish to deal with them any further and that I would like a credit back. I got no reply. A week later, I emailed again asking for a reply or at the very least, a credit. Still nothing. Last week I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Still nothing. I just emailed them this morning after still no credit or no reply and advised that I would file a fraud claim since they so casually run the scam of taking money with no sign of the products I ordered.

The interesting thing is, apparently the military thinks they are pretty worthy because they are linked into our Centric Mall. This is where we as military can log in and shop for a sometimes 10% discount. Although, I can't see the good in getting a discount on the money they stole from me. I suppose, however, I could look at it in a positive light and say, Well, at least I saved that 10% from what they stole. Whew!!! Lucky me!!!
