Ripoff overpricing and hoping to get away with it

Shops, Products, Services

Me and several of my neighbors have this company. The first problem I had with them is when I was on auto fill which they said relieved me of having to constantly check my tank especially as there were so many customers on my street. Well in the middle of Jan they let me run out and then charged me extra fees for emergency fill service. They then said it was still my responibility to check my tank and call if it was below 30%. Not what they said when I signed up. Would not waive the charge.

Next problem I had was being on the budget, they were advised the only thing I use propane for was funace, but would come in the middle of June and fill my tank and raise the budget.

Next problem I had was I noticed a trend after telling them to stick the budget and auto and I would buy it by the tank. I noticed after a year and a half that when I wasn't home when the fill was done my bill was always about $100.00 higher than when I was home and talking to the driver. I had suspicion that something was wrong but no proof. I called for gas and checked my tank every night before dark while the days passed waiting to be filled. On the 9th day after I called I checked my tank, an underground 500gal, and was at 17%. I called and asked when they were going to fill because I was getting pretty low, the lady said we have 10 days, ok. I checked the tank that night and it was at 16%. I worked dayturn the next day and got home at 3pm to find the stub in my door. It said they started on 5% and filled to 80%. The gallons added up but there was a 10-11% shortage from my tank from just the night before. I called and advised them and she stated that there is no way the meter on the truck was wrong, to which I said it doesn't have to be if you let gas out of my tank, then fill it. She said why would we do something like that, I said so you can make more money!

Again they would not discuss it, acted as if I was making false accusations.

Lastly on 11/20/04 I was delivered gas and charged 2.28 per gallon. I almost lost control of my bladder! I checked the Energy Information Agency and Department of Energy web site and found the national average to be 1.69 and my region was 1.53. I called them with this info and she said, people who use 1000 gallons or so pay less than people who only use a few hundred or so. I reminded her I use over 800 gals a year and she said her computer showed me only using 375 gals a year. I have never gotten my tank filled less than twice a winter I said, I have the reciepts. She then said I can lower your bill to 1.89 per gal. I figured that up to be 140.00 savings and said you mean if I didn't pick the phone up today, I just get to throw you and extra 140 bucks? How many times should I have called? No reply. I said when will I get my money back and she said it would take 6-8 weeks to process through corporate office.
What about the rest of the customers who don't know any better??? I filed a complaint stating pretty much exactly the same as I state here with the Attny. Generals consumer complaint department online and after submitting my report was advised that my complaint would be shared with Amerigas if they looked into it, nice... I wonder what my bill will be next time, if they don't try to sue me for slander first. What do I do???
