Ripoff refused to refund deposit money even though I chose not to utilize services

After learning of my ex-husband's failure to pay on our marital home for a year and a pending foreclosure, I contacted Debtbug.com to see if their services might help save my home. They assured me that they felt they could. I sent them a $295.00 deposit and was told when I sent the remaining $465.00, they would assign me to a "specialist" and begin work on my case. Within a week, I discovered more legal problems involved with my home that were beyond the scope of a Debtbug.com I phoned them and gave them this information and told them that I was not going to go ahead with their services and asked them how to get my deposit money back. I also informed them that I had stopped payment on the e-check that I had sent just prior to begin services. I was told several times that they could not begin services until the e-check cleared and my bank assured me that the check had not been processed.

I then faxed a letter to Debtbug requesting my refund as instructed. I was told I would hear back within a month. After not hearing anything for a month, I began emailing them and initially got no response the first few emails. After informing them that I would be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, they sent me an email telling me that it would take a month from that date (now a month later) and if I sent more emails it would delay the case each time. I then waited another month, and finally received a letter in the mail stating, "Each and every misrepresentation and/or false assertion in your refund request is hereby denied." (I am not sure what they are pertaining to as the letter simply stated that I was requesting a refund of my deposit for services not yet begun). They went on to list several other reasons that had nothing to do with my case as why they were not refunding my monies. They falsely stated that they provided me with a stategy (they did not, I never even spoke with the specialist they supposedly assigned me because they said I would not be able to do so until my check had cleared) and that I did not have to lose my home. (I didn't lose my home, and am still pursuing the host of legal matters that were outside the scope of Debtbug.com.)

I intend to share my story with everyone possible as I think it is such a tragedy that individuals who portray themselves as being in a service business prey on those in crisis. I have no idea what Debtbug could actually do for someone without complex legal problems as mine, but I certainly fear for those who would put their trust in a company who refuses to acknowledge that every situation is not in their scope The simple fact that they would not refund money when they did not provide me a service speaks volumes to me about their intregity. The horrible customer service after I politely called and stated I changed my mind just sealed the deal on feelings toward this company. Please beware of DEBTBUG!
