I was charged for the service I didn't use

Applied for services, paid the money and returned package unopened and asked them to cancel membership and a refund Called them to inquire about help getting medicine. Was told that there would be a $50.00 fee and $40.00 for medicine. Gave them my bank account info. They took the money out, sent me a package, which I never opened and then mailed back to them with a note to cancel. I was charged $40.00 a month for a service I had never used. I was told over the phone that I would receive a refund, once they had received the package. I was told in every conversation that I would be credited for the money they drafted from my checking account. I then received a letter stating that they would NOT refund my money, it was membership dues. I got a call from the supervisor who was very rude and called me names and said that I was the 'air head and dumbie' who didn't use the membership and that they were not going to refund my money because I agreed to the contract orally. He said it was recorded, but said I had to pay $50.00 for the tape to listen to it. I was NEVER told that it was a membership, but that it was for the medicine and that I could terminate my membership for a refund. I never signed anything, nor did I ever receive any medicine from them. He also stated that he could charge me for the whole year and that I would be responsible for the remaining membership dues, but he was being nice and cancelling my membership for me as a favor. I explained to him that I never used their service and that I was told that I would receive a refund and that it should also be recorded. He said that was untrue and he said that I just had to suck it up and take my lumps like everyone else. He was very rude and obnoxious. He belittled me and told me it was my own fault.
