I applied to this job posting on Linkedin:

I then received a phone call from Megan G. (universal@careershrdpt.com). We chatted a bit about the position and she seemed a little... out of it. I figured that it was close to the end of the day, and maybe she wasn't feeling well, or was just a little on the odd side. She set me up a time to come to the office for an interview and emailed plus texted me a confirmation, along with the address. All seemed good.

I went to the interview today, and it was very odd. I was given a short form to fill in (did not ask SSN or anything). Something just didn't sit right, although the office looked legit (other than terrible paint on the walls) and a very unprofessional receptionist that stated she worked there part-time and stayed on her cell phone the whole time.

After a brief wait, "Phil" came out to get me at reception. Threw a lot of info at me about Express Glass (that he says is partnered with Safelite) and showed me a blank invoice. Did not really ask me any questions other than if I owned my car and didn't share with anyone. He then said the process typically requires a second interview with their hiring board, but that he liked me and he'd rather "see me in action". He then invited me back at 9:00am Monday to shadow one of the trainers. He did not give details and went on to say that I could start training Tuesday. When I asked one question, he basically brushed me off and then hurried me out. All in all, it was 10 minutes.

Now... if being interviewed for a management position, I would expect behavioral/scenario type questions, and a lot more in-depth to happen. All "Phil" stated was that I'd provide staff training, do hiring/firing, and oversee the office. Why would I need to go "in the field" to do this?

After getting home, I started researching online and was very concerned with what I found. Apparently, a lot of "marketing firms" do this "hiring process". What happens is at the second interview, they send you off into the community to sell coupon books door-to-door! Because I did not want to jump to conclusions, I emailed the HR Manager (Megan G.) and asked for details about where I would be going exactly, and if the pay structure was commission or salary based. The response I received was that my second interview would be "for observation of what the representatives do each day" and that pay is "weekly salary + bonus".

I emailed the HR Manager (Megan G.) back and told her of my concerns and what I had found online. I respectfully withdrew my application.

PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS JOB AD! IT CAN BE MANY DIFFERENT POSITIONS. I am terrified at the idea of being dragged somewhere with a stranger and forced to go door-to-door to sell things. This IS NOT what I applied for or what was posted. Very scary.

STAY SAFE!
