While shopping during the Christmas season at a FYE store, the clerk made the suggestion that I sign up for their VIP Backstage Pass, as I would recieve an immediate discount on my purchase. He made it clear that I could cancel my membership before the monthly membership fees began.
I called and cancelled my membership well before the required date. Several months went by before I realized my credit card was getting a regular $11.99 charge. I should have noticed this earlier, but since my family occasionally shops at FYE it really didn't register.
When I did notice that these were membership charges I immediately called FYE customer service. I was informed that there was indeed a record of my earlier call, but it was recorded as a "benefit inquiry", not a cancellation. As far as I'm concerned this is fraud - deliberately mis-representing my call so they could activate the membership billing.
I pointed out that I had never actually used the service, and they agreed that there was no record of my ever using or benefiting from the program. They told me I needed to request a refund in writing, which I did. I received a form letter in return which again mis-represnted the actual events, and the assurance that under their "liberal policy of Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back", I would receive a credit - for ONE month.
Ripoff!!!
