Showland Cinema age discrimination - refused to allow entrance to children after 6pm

My husband and I attempted to take our children to see a movie at Showland Cinema this past Friday evening at 6:15pm. This movie was a western called Open Range and is rated R. They advised us that children under 11 couldnt see an R rated movie after 6pm and this is company policy. My husband told them that the poster states that children under 17 can see the movie with a parent. They told us that it is their policy not to allow children under 11 to see an R rated movie after 6pm, but we could come back the next day at noon to watch the movie.

The following day my husband contacted the owner of Showland Cinema (who also owns Tri-way Drive-in) to pass on his complaint of the policy. Dave Kinney, the owner, told my husband at first that this was a federal policy, but when my husband told him the poster says different—he changed his story. He agree that we could take the kids to see the movie before 6pm or we could take them to the drive-in to see it. He states the reason is because adults seeing the R rated movie doesnt like kids being in the theater. He told my husband that children in general are disruptive.

My husband told him that we will take our business elsewhere and will not be seeing films at either of his theaters in the future. He told my husband that if we want to support other theaters then we will not be supporting our local community. (However, this is ironic because several months ago when the other local theater got a very popular movie to show that he was unable to get he then chose to put on his recording with movie times that he recommended we see the show outside of Plymouth, instead of seeing it at the other local theater.
