Forcing me to pay for a damaged dvd that I did not damage

I rented a dvd from this business approximately 4 days ago. I took the dvd home, watched only half of the movie, took the dvd out and put it back in the case, where it sat next to me tv for 2 day;I forgot that I had it, and brought it back 2 days late in the same condition of which it was rented, and with this place, you never know if the dvd or video will work properly. The movie was returned and all was well... Or so I thought.

I get a phone call today from them implying that I scratched the dvd intentionally, and that I am going to have to pay for it. Of course I argued my case with the employee, who said that another unfortunate patron of theirs had rented the dvd and had returned it stating that it would not play. I then told her that maybe he did something to it, and that I in no way damaged anything and that I would not rent anything from there again.

After I suggested that the other customer had scratched it and then brought it back saying it wouldn't play so that he would not be responsible, she then tells me that he would not do that, and that he is a good customer, even though I have been renting from there for over 10 years.

I feel cheated and defrauded, and I plan to tell everyone I know not to rent from these crooks. Here's to hoping that the new Family Video in our area, and Blockbuster put these people out of business.
