Columbia House, Health Services, Complete Homes
Ripoff, unauthorized charges to credit card. Columbia house customers beware

Recreation & Entertainment

First of all I am filing this complaint for my mother.

November she recieved what she believed a fun cash check from Columbia House because she had never used her fun cash from them.

She took it to the bank and deposited it into her account. Since that time, they have been charging her credit card account for two different services from companies that are subsidiaries of Columbia House.

She thought the charges were for a web hosting service we signed up for so did not question them until our web hosting service expired and the charges kept showing on her bill.

She called the 800 number for each company asking them what they were, what services they offered and why they had been charging her account with no authorization and to cancel immediately. Both companies said they were charging her account because she cashed a check from columbia house for 2 dollars and 50 cents.

I know people recieve advertising checks in the mail once and more a week saying if you cash this you will get our services blah blah or some other fishy sounding thing. I also know my mother has never and would never sign such a thing if it had anything like that associated with it. Even if she did miss some fine print, why and how would they get the permission from Columbia House to charge her credit card? The checks were presented as columbia house fun cash.

One company called Health Services said they offer discounts on perscriptions ect. Now since she had been paying for this service why did they not send her any documentation that she was indeed recieving this health service? If so it would have been questioned immediately and canceled on the spot.

The other company called Complete Homes say they offer some kind of discount on home repairs ect. Again no documentation sent to her for any service she was paying for from this company. They charged her credit card with no authorization.

The companies both did agree to cancel the service, (not that she ever recieved any service for the money they took from her). She has requested a copy of the check she recieved from Columbia House that supposedly started these charges. Both companies say it will take 4 to 6 weeks to recieve. Both companies also say she has to request a refund in writing and that also takes weeks to process according to them.

I have been online searching for any information on either of these companies and have found nothing. I have searched everything I can on columbia house being affiliated with these companies and have found nothing. Both companies give a P.O. Box address in Westerville, OH. So are probably one in the same.

Please tell me if you have heard of these companies and, or any similar situation.

I would be thankful for any help and thank you for reading this report.
