Ben's Fine Furniture Store in Pt Huron, MI. Advertising by means of large sign in front of building: 1/2 OFF SEALY MATTRESSES! After looking around and speaking with an employee, it was obvious that there was no 1/2 off sale, only a means of luring customers into their store. Most consumers, if seeing a sign which says 1/2 off bread, or 1/2 off shoes, assume that there is a present sale-50% OFF their regular, everyday price. But, when speaking with the store employee as to the terms of the sale, we were told that "Sealy sets the prices for the mattresses" and if we find one at a better price, they will match it! They are deliberating avoiding my complaint regarding false advertising, attempting to blame Sealy for having a set price. I could care less what this or any other store lists their items for sale, but when a store specifically says 1/2 off-I expect to receive a sale, a discount-50% off their everyday regular price. The BBB and the Attorney General's office refuse to do anything, stating they only take action if there has been numerous complaints showing a pattern of wrong-doing. This is wrong. The Michigan Protection Laws do not say that numerous complaints must be made before considered a violation. What good is it to have these laws if the consumer is not protected? They are useless, in my opinion.
