Vermont Castings
Price gouge for parts?

Real Estate

We have two Reliance, propane stoves which have worked great since 2003 & 2008 but we now have a problem with the 2003 stove, Model RNVOD. The part number #51866 is a 300 degree ceramic switch. We have had authorized technical support / repair people look at the stove. They have found parts that perform the same function for Vermont Stoves, at other distributors, but not the correct size. All of the parts are about $18 except for the one we need, which only comes from Vermont Castings for $160 - is this price gouging? Service people have told us they are embarrassed by the situation and the price but will, of course, order the part for us and install it. We purchased both stoves through Ludemans in Portland, OR and they and an authorized repair person from Maupin Stove have been trying to fix the problem so we have heat. I would like an explanation to the satisfaction of both of the repair people, from two different companies, as to why the part is 800% higher, and, of course, a far cheaper price would be wonderful.
