ESPN The Magazine Insider
Accessing ESPN Inside

Newspapers & Magazines

I paid by check for a years subscription to ESPN the magazine. It states that with the subscription I would be entitled to the insider information on ESPN.com. However, a subscriber can only gain access to the insider information if they post a credit card number on the web site. I already paid for the year. Why would espn need a credit card? I asked espn why and they told me it was their policy. They could not tell me any other reason except that they just want a credit card number for everyone. This is for everyone even though they prepaid for the year.

Below is a copy of the insider privileges and the instructions for accessing espn insider. This is copied from the application form for espn the magazine. No mention of needing a credit card number.

Your paid subscription includes access to ESPN INSIDER. Your ESPN INSIDER privileges are: 1. Sports Rumors - find out the scoop on trades before they happen. 2. Fantasy Content - expert analysis to help you dominate. 3. Scouts, Inc. - deepest and most detailed reports anywhere. 4. Realtime Scores - all games, automatic updates with no refreshing. 5. ESPN local - news written about your favorite teams, every day, all in one place. 6. And much, much more to keep you one step aheac of the game.

Accessing ESPN INSIDER is as easy as 1,2, 3... 1. Go to - www.espn. Go.com/getinsidernow2. Type in your magazine account number which is found on the address label of your issue of ESPN The Magazine3. Click "Submit Now"

ESPN the magazine gave me no option to receive insider unless I submitted a credit card. I canceled my subscription because I could not receive what they advertised. I do not know what espn is doing with the credit card numbers. Subscribers have already paid for the year or perhaps longer. One might suspect that ESPN is using the credit card numbers for some other reason. The espn website could be compromised and credit card numbers stolen from their site. This could be tragic because ESPN does not need the numbers except it is their policy that they have a your credit card number on file.
