Miscellaneous

I received a letter stating I won $250,000 from "Readers Digest/USA/EUROPE SWEEPSTAKES MILLION DOLLAR DRAW." Enclosed was a check in the amount of $3,940.00 from MGM International, drawn on Nevada Federal Credit Union, 2645 S Mojave Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89121-1238. The check # on the check was located where the routing# should be. The enclosed check was for taxes, insurance, handling and shipping fees. The letter stated I was to call the Agent phone #'s listed on the letter to claim my winnings and activate payment. When I called the # I was told to deposit the check in my checking account and call them back once I had completed the task. Upon my callback the second installment of $246,029.55 would be delivered to my address via a respresentative. I was to keep the letter to sign and give to delivery person for verification of my identification. When I spoke to the agents to ask questions regarding these winnings they were rude and evasive and would hang up if they did not like the question you asked. Thank you for your postings because who knows how much money I would have lost. Reading these postings prompted me to investigate. I called the Nevada Federal Credit Union who immediately informed me the check was no good; it was fraudulent; the Federal Trade Commission stated they do not stamp letters certified for sweepstakes drawings etc - it is a fraud. It is so sad there are EVIL people in the world like this. How they get away with this type of stuff is beyond me. I hope this posting helps to protect others as well—as it certainly saved me.
