Barn Rebuilder The so-called contractor accepted money for work to be done and disappeared without doing the work

The contractor was hired to repair an old barn. He gave a written estimate and a list of references. I called all the references and he seemed like he would be OK. He started work and wanted some money to pay for material and labor. I gave him some money and he began work on the foundation and posts supporting the barn. The project seemed to be going well, tho not necessarily the way I had thought. This I attributed to his supposed greater experience. Though not through with the first phase of the project Bryan said it was time to install the news doors and windows on the barn. He wanted another check to get the doors and windows which I gave. As soon as the second check cleared he disappeared. He will not accept a call or acknowledge a message. An examination of the work performed shows that it was shoddy.
