As A teacher in the state of Florida I was initially indroduced and offered service with Nextell. I was told by their representetives that the service is one of a kind and that I could choose form a several rate plans. I was told that they had excellent reception and that if there would be any problems to call the Palm Beach representetive that sold the account to our school. Furthermore, I was told that they would have a goverment department that would exclusively handle and provide customer support should the state representetive be unavailable.

There support proved to be a real rip off. I took out a rate plan that was for 79.99 for a phone that would be free with a one year contract. I never got the phone for free. I ended up paying for it. Additionally, and what's worse, the service is TERRIBLE. I live out west of palm beach and my reception was the worse I have ever had in any cellular phone I have ever used. Before my unfortuunate choice of swithing to Nextell I had Sprint for 6 years and prior to that AT & T for 4 years and I have never had such poor service and or coonnection. My phone reprted "no service" continuesly. I did not recieve 90% of my calls as the reception, I quess, was so bad that it would send callers directly to voice mail. I had to drive out east to retrieve my voice messages and even then they dropped.

I called Nextell several times and reported the problem over and over. Then we were stuck with all the hurricanes in Florida. This complicated the situation further as it gave Nextell further excuses to avoid my complaints, and I imagin others, to not do anything about it. I was paying an average of $100.00 a month. I changed my plane twice to see if that would improve service as I was told that could be the problem, To my dicovery, this only re-initiated my one year commitment all over again. So evey time I made any change to my plan. That date became the effective date of the plan cicle. I was never told about that. After 6 months, I decided I was getting no where and the connection was getting worse. They reversed $200.00 for a one time curtesy. They stated it was in good faith and would not want me to leave. Poor service continued on. One month later I called to disconnect service. My final bill was a $500.00. I was charged a 200 early termination fee and the phone.

If you plan to sigh up with Nextell. Think again... You WILL regret it.
