Amanda Philbrook
Ryan Hakes Falsely selling nonexistent vehicle on craigslist

Miscellaneous

Saw a 1998 Chevy Silverado listed on craigslist for $1895. For the year it was in excellent condition so I thought the price was wonderful. Contacted seller via email. She responded stating she was a Corporal stationed at a base and needed to sell truck by August 25th because she was being stationed back to Afghanistan. I tried to get her number to call her but she said she was training and could only check her emails a few times a day.

She claimed the truck was still in VA where she was last stationed and we would have the transaction via a payment membership thru Amazon. After payment was made, she would deliver the truck with Amazon's service. She also mentioned something about not telling MONEYGRAM that it was for a purchase or they would charge me a commerce fee. This is where I had my gut feeling start sinking in. We have an acct with Amazon and they don't take payment thru western union or moneygram.

So I recieve an invoice from "Amazon" and I still find it fishy and decide to call them. They invoice told me to make my payment at my local moneygram to not the vehicle owner but to someone else named Ryan Hakes in Houston, TX. Well, Amazon immediately told me this was a scam and do not send them money because the email was NOT from Amazon at all and AMAZON will NEVER ask for money via western union or moneygram. Please do not fall for this as I almost did.
