Reservation - Ticketing and reservations

I am a frequent flier. I travel from Maui to LA twice a month and then very other month to Thailand. I use travelocity often and have to change reservations often. I understand changefees etc. But I recently bought a ticket for a companion. He was unable to go and use it that time. Despite it being recorded as charged on my credit card I cannot use that fare ever. Said companion has to use it. It seems unfair that despite me being the payor and a VIP travelocity customer I cannot use what I paid for. I have written and tried to discuss the illogic of this with travelocity. They have not been accommodating, despite he fact that I spend more each month in air travel than most people pay for a mortgage.
