William T. Helmes, dead beat dad from, O

William T. Helmes is a dead beat dad. Since a child support order was filed in May of 1998, he has racked up over $28,000 in support and fines owed. There is an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest in Hamilton County, Ohio.

He lives in Miamisburg, but travels throughout the country working at the various renaissance festivals. He rarely sees his three children (ages 12,9 and 8). He skipped Thanksgiving with them this year and last. He skipped last spring break with them as well.

When the children see him, he refuses to give the youngest his medication. Over the Christmas holidays, the youngest's glasses were broken and were left for me to replace. The children have spoken of him paying for things with $100 bills, yet he doesn't pay his court ordered support unless he has a court date the day previous, or we track down the "employer of the month" and get his wages garnished.

Because his warrant is a misdemeanor in the state of Ohio, the warrant doesn't show up in police computers outside the county of Hamilton.

I don't understand why a man would want to let his children go without. If I earned pots of money, I wouldn't care too much about the child support, with the exception that he's teaching his children that if you avoid it long enough, you can ignore your responsibilities.
