They are a fraud

This agency called us a couple months ago, saying that they have been trying to contact my husband for the last six years. They said he owed over $3000 for a loan he apparently made back in 2004 for a camera and that he was paying on it through a debt consolidation then stopped in 2007. My husband never bought a camera, let alone for 3000. They said it was from Columbia Electronics. If you google this, this is not a loan company. They threatened us and said that they would take away his paycheck. He is in the military and told him he would go with no pay due if he did not pay it. They continued to threaten us and they were even rude to us.
We never had gotten any letters or anything saying anything about any debt and also it was never on his credit report. This was a few months ago. Now they are saying they are suing us. I just called them and asked for documentation of when the debt was made, what has been paid on it, and what hasn't been paid on it and what is owed now and he got all snippy and wouldn't let me talk and said I was yelling. I wasn't yelling. And he said that the lawyer will take it from here.
We never received any letter from a lawyer. Now they are calling my husbands place of work, which is in another county because he is stationed overseas due to the military. Calling anyone at their place of work is illegal. When I mentioned this when I called, they immediately got all defensive and hung up on me. My husband tried emailing Richard, the guy from nationwide, and the email that he was given does not work. When looking up nationwide on the bbb they are rated an F.
All I know is, after doing research, we cannot find anything about any debt and they cannot provide documentation that says anything about the debt, and they will not give out the number to the place the debt is from. Scam!!! Any business that cannot back up what they are saying and they hang up on you when you prove them wrong does not need to be in business and they need to be shut down.
