What they don't say - magic jack phone service

I live in MN and can't call my friend in WI without purchasing international minutes. Is this free long distance? The support staff can't write English. The MJ keeps getting corrupt and needs to be restarted. I don't think they care about these unmentioned problems. You sure don't see anything to this effect on their website.
