Miscellaneous

This company posted a help wanted ad on GetHired.com advertising a position earning from $100 to $200 per day, and the only requirement was access to the internet. I received a text message asking if I were interested in the position and requesting my email address. I responded, and received an email from James Jones of James Jones Law, LLC of Salem Oregon which was to serve as an employment application, but only asked for name, address phone number and how many times a day I checked my email. No requests for job history, resume, background, etc. Again I responded. I got this response: "Thanks for the application and the payment could be in form of Money Order, cashier checks or company check... You will cash the payment and deduct $100 for yourself, then send the rest to the orphanage manager or my disabled client via western union or money gram with the info I will provide for you in the future. You will be cashing this payment every 2 days. I want you to provide me the name as you want it to be on the payment and your address so the payment can be issue out. I wait to hear from you soon.

James Jones"

Having heard of similar scams on this website I decided to do a little research. James Jones Law, LLC does have a website, but it is pretty cheesy. It lists their address in Salem, Oregon, but they are not listed in any phone directory for the Salem area. When I called the number listed on their website I got a guy who eventually admitted to being "Jim" but couldn't quite remember his last name or his position.

Their website purports that they are an affiliate of Jones & Co. Solicitors, a respected firm in the UK. However, the contact information given for this firm is not the same as that which is posted on Jones & Co. Solictor's own website.

Thanks again for this site. It helped enough the last time I answered one of these ads that I was smart enough to do a little research before getting ripped off.
