You Get What you Pay For - Cricket Cellular Service

Miscellaneous

I am currently a happy Cricket customer and have been for a little over a year now. I use my phone for the basics: text, phone and camera. I'd rather not have one at all but seem to have been sucked into the craze (I'm 32). I was with Verizon for many years before moving over to Cricket. My verizon bills were typically around $175 for two people (I mostly used for texting and the other didn't text at all but used the phone as the only phone). The reason they were initially selected was their nationwide coverage (the contract is what kept us). After paying large amounts for what we felt was very little return, we switched to cricket. My cousin received one free month of service for the referral and we were able to minimize our bill tremendously... $73/month for two. Not only do we both text, but we never have to watch our minutes for voice or data. It's unlimited. I've had some troubles with delays in texts getting places and some dropped calls, but I honestly experienced that with Verizon (much less so). I didn't think the customer service within the store was worse than Verizon, but it soon became apparent that the reason they are able to offer low prices is they rely heavily on users to pay via cell phone and not rely on people / customer service (that means they can hire less). I haven't had a reason to contact customer service, but I hear that it's really not worth it. I've attempted to access Google mail on my phone but was unable (probably doing me a favor. Should be spending more time living than checking email). Also, when we signed up, we were told that if you pay for three months up front, we would get the fourth month free (but couldn't be at sign up). When I went back in to pay, I was told that offer is no longer available as they had changed the computer systems and it doesn't register that code. They charge you extra to pay your bill in the store or online (maybe $5) but we received a couple vouchers to waive that fee at sign up. And my mom was late sending in the rebate for our phones, but we still received the benefit even though it was all our fault. I have traveled to other states and not had a problem where my mom was unable to get coverage. I'm guessing that is because of the different types of phones we have, as they are different. Although, I have still have coverage where others (with differ service providers) do not. I do miss Verizon's coverage and great customer service every once in a while, but knowing I'm saving $100 a month with Cricket, that thought quickly vanishes. I will say that Cricket does seem to be somewhat of an untrustworthy company (never know if I can really trust what I'm told), but in all I haven't had any experiences that lessen the value I place on my cell service, especially knowing that I'm not binded by a contract.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for.
