Well, I feel really stupid. This REALLY nice young guy came to my door and was very enthusiastic. He said he was a student trying to earn points towards a trip to Europe. This kid was good. He complimented me and was so nice, he pretty much guilted me in to buying two subscriptions to children's books for my niece and nephews. He also told me that his supervisor would call in three days to ask me how he did. If I changed my mind about the subscription, I could tell his supervisor not to cash the check and he would not lose any points. I figured I would just write a check and then when the supervisor called, I would just cancel the check. I never got a call. But then 2 weeks later, I tried to make a purchase and my debit card declined. This company had cashed my check without calling me first and it caused my account to be overdrawn.

Warning to homeowners new and old alike - DO NOT give any money to door-to-door salespeople. Maybe in the 1950's they were legit, but in my experience now anyone who goes door to door (except for maybe Girl Scouts) are scam artists. It doesn't matter how nice they are, how honest they seem, or how good a deal they appear to be offering you. Buyer beware!!!
