Students selling Door to door magazine subscriptions NOTHING BUT FRAUD!

Miscellaneous

A young charismatic girl by the name of Katrina came to my door selling magazine subscriptions. I have actually been successful with this type of thing before. I did not realize this was entirely FRAUDULENT!

She was a very fast talker, but friendly enough. She claimed to be selling these magazines for school, and that the girls and boys were competing to see who would sell the most.

I am a single mother of a young son, so money is tight, but she was nice, and I wanted to help. So I agreed to buy a magazine for my son, and she talked me into buying one for myself as well. She was persistent, but told me that my neighbors had purchased subscriptions from her and that she really wanted to get the most points so that the boys team did not win. She was really beleivable. I even mentioned to her that money was tight, and she told me that I could post date my check!

I really didn't think anything about it, as I said, I have done this before with no problems. Well after a month of waiting, (they alread cashed my $110.00 check) I decided to call the number and get a status update on when my magazines would arrive. The number listed is just an automated outbound message, "Thank you for calling customer service, we are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm MST. If you have called during our normal business hours and have received this message we apologize for the inconvenience and please try again later. Thank you, have a great day. Goodbye" No matter what time of day you call, you get the same message!

Now I feel pretty stupid for falling for this. My desire to beleive that people are nice and honest has just cost me $110.00 that I really didn't have!

If someone comes to your door selling magazines, JUST SAY NO! I still have that darn sticker she put on my door!
