Miscellaneous

I had sewage coming up in bath and shower drains. I looked in the phone book for plumbing contractors who rotoroot sewage lines, My Plumber was listed and agreed to come. They advertised no travel fee, but later when I called, I was told that there is a $79.00 travel fee which would be applied to the bill as a credit if the work was done. I was informed that runing the rotorooter through the 65 foot line would cost $652.80, with my $100.00 coupon and 10% senior discount the charge would be $478.00 and this would include a camera run later though the pipe. I paid this and another employee later ran a camera through the line identifying a break in the line and a mass of tree roots in that area. I was then told that My Plumber would be happy to fix the problem for $2700.00. This was after they gave me credit for the rotorootering. I was stunned.
The next day I, a 75 year old man, worked 5 hours digging out the cable and reparing the pipe. Total cost $27.00 for materials and
5 hours labor. These people are the types who prey on old people who have no idea how to fix the problem and how much it should cost. I can imagine an old terrified lady who sees sewage coming into her shower and bath tub. How much will she pay?
