Charging fees, refuse to close account

I opened an account with Wells Fargo. Unfortunately, now I'm employed. I tried to close the account but they refuse saying that I have to keep if open for six months. I have never heard of such a thing. How can a bank refuse to close an account with no money in it? They are also charging me overdraft so all this is piling up and I have no job. I want everyone to know this so avoid this bank at all costs.
