Closed my account and getting screwed

I recently closed my account with direct tv. A few days later I got a bill for $345! I closed my account because I like many others are trying to find ways to save money. On this bill it states if I do not pay it with in 15 days they will take it out of my credit card account, for my convenience of course... When I called to ask if I could make payments I was told that direct tv does not take payments. Really? They would rather send me to collections then take my money? Who runs a business like this?
