Miscellaneous

My mother joined a dating website for the elderly in Feb. 2011. After a few weeks she began emailing a gentlemen who said he was from Florida & his name is Bowen Reeves (we live in Mass), they hit it off and he asked her to take her name off the dating website. Dispite the fact that to date they have never meet or even talked on the phone, he has written such beautiful and romantic emails, that she believes he is real and they are in love. After 6 weeks of correspondence, my mother was going on vacation and would be in Florida for a short time - she asked him to meet her at the airport & he agreed. When he did not show, he contacted my mother a few days later by email and told her he got a job in England and it was such a great contract - he had to leave right away and he lost her cell phone number so he could not call to explain. So now he has been over in England with his 18 year old son "David" (btw he said he was 67yrs old). 1st day in England, he was mugged, cash and credit cards stolen. He was hospitalized and had to undergo multiple surgeries. And because all his cash & credit cards were stolen he had no money. This is when he began asking for money telling my mother that he was previously a victim of identity theft and could only withdraw money from his bank "in person" & he could not replace his credit card's because again it needed to be done in person??? Mom sent money... Many times. The stories he gave went from - money was needed for surgery, hospital bills, food and living expenses & then it was for "legal bills". The legal bills began after he was "healed", England was now holding their passports until he paid the company that gave him the contract back the money they lost (reason for being over there). Things began to look better now, according to my monther, the medical bills were paid, lawyer was paid, contract was paid... He said they were ready to come back to the state's and they were going to meet, he was going to back back all this money (because he has soooooo much) & they are going to live happily ever after. But wait, now his son has taken ill, the doctors now say that he has a brain tummor and is going to die unless he has surgery (here we go again). He can't leave now, his son is all that he has left as he lost his wife & mother of his child 15 years ago. MUST SEND MONEY OR MY SON WILL DIE.

Well what is going on now is that the surgery is completed, David is doing much better but the hospital has taken their passport's because of the bill - which needs to be full paid before they will get them back. "Bowen Reeves" plan now is to complete the payment of 18,500, fly home by himself to Tampa Florida, go to the bank and get all the funds to pay my mother back, fly to Boston to pick her up & then they will both fly back to England to pick up "David"

Again, to date they have never meet or ever talked on the phone. He did however email a picture of himself, 3 different poses - all look they were cut out of a magazine.

The wire transfer's were sent to England, Nigeria & New York - all different account numbers - as there were many wire's.

Since this was brought to my attention, which was 3 days after the last wire was sent on July 1, she is no longer sending any money. We spoke with local police & they took the report - but there is nothing they can do. He continues to email & asking for money, my mother tells him she has no more money - but he keeps trying. The emails go from "I love you and can't wait to be with you" to "If I don't get the money then I will surely die here and never be able to pay you back"
