US Visitors Avoid Esso

I live in Canada but have a US issued credit card. If you attempt to use your US credit card at an (Imperial Oil) Esso sevice station, you may have $100 additional debited from your account as a "hold". They do not advise you of this, plus it may not be removed for days. I had this experience recently and the $100 is still debited from my account five days later. Stay away from Esso stations. They discriminate against American travelers. If you are traveling across Canada, you might be broke by the time you arrive.in speaking with Esso, they say this is necessary because of credit card fraud. I say that THIS is fraud and discriminatory. I doubt that they lose so much revenue from fraud that they are willing to lose customers. It's bad policy.
