Infomatika Publications
Fraudulent & Misleading Phone Campaign Targeting Businesses

Miscellaneous

We received an invoice dated 10/15/03 from Infomatika for a "Preferred Customer Listing" in their publication, at $349.95. At my inquiry to our temporary receptionist about whether she knew anything about it, she told me she had received a call from them to verify our company information (which she did), and to confirm our RENEWAL. She was told that this was a listing we'd had before, and they just needed her O.K. To renew what had already been pre-approved. She said something to the effect that, if we had already approved it, she guessed it was O.K.

I called Infomatika on 10/28/03 and left a voicemail, as all their customer service representatives were reportedly busy (presumably dealing with other companies who had been misled or defrauded). Their message said my call would be returned within 48 hours. It was not. I left another message on 11/5/03. Still no return call. When we received a "friendly reminder" letter dated 11/18/03, I called again, and was met with rude resistance from both "customer service" and a woman named Kathleen Thomas (who I'd been transferred to when I asked for someone with the authority to credit the invoice), alleging that our temp receptionist had represented herself as someone with the authority to O.K. Their "order", and that if we refused to pay the invoice, then we would subsequently be dealing with "another department (no doubt a very aggressive collections department).

Our intention at this point is to inform the New York State Attorney General's office, as well as California's, and to contact the New York Better Business Bureau to file a report as well.
THIS IS A SCAM, and all are urged not to roll over to such fraudulent tactics, but to report them to the proper authorities.
