Breach of Contract

I was verbally informed by GMAC (twice) that they had granted my request to defer my automobile payments. I then recieved a call from their collections department saying I owed a partial payment. I escalated the call to a supervisor who confirmed that there was documentation supporting my conversation regarding the deferement. She informed me that one department said yes however later a different department said no. I do not want to get an attorney involved however they are at fault and not willing to make it right even though they are the ones who sqrewed up.
