Engine Malfunction after 28 hrs

2008 VX110 wave runner engine used 28 hrs. Piston skirt broke off and cause heavy engine damage. Originally told over 5,000.00 to repair. After calling YAMAHA corp. They were willing to pay 500.00 towards new engine and dealer will only charge just over 3,000.00. Sound like a deal. Warranty was only 1 year. At a cost 9,000.00 I should have known that after 28 hrs. It would be a unusable. They still can't say why this happened. But if the engine was defective i should have bought an extended warranty. At 10 hours the dealer recomended a service. They would have taken the motor apart to see if there was a problem. 4 hrs to take apart and 4 hrs to put back to gether at 110.00. But they say there was no known problem. Yea right
