On the same day that I went in to make an offer on a house, a collection letter was generated that day for a "bad check" that I supposedly wrote to a company I never heard of and never had any dealings with! Not only were they saying I passed a bad check in the amount of $1800, they added "interest" of over $3000, bringing the grand total to over $4800. I'm furious—I have spent the last 12 years establishing my good credit and saving money so I can buy a house and now this happens. The letter was not very professional, but some of the wording is very convincing especially if you actually did have a debt with the named company, as I have read here on other reports. I became suspicious when I read the line""We accept all major credit cards over the phone" and "our representatives are specially trained to deal with check writers in financial crisis"&huh, you bet they are, they want your credit card number! Anyway, I knew it was a scam for sure when my daughter did a internet search. I sent them a certified letter before I knew they were a scam, telling them I will file a law suit if they have reported a fraudulent debt on my credit reports.
