Denied Credit With a 700 Score After Irrelevant Fraud Questions

Home Depot sent me to an HVAC contractor. That contractor, whom I picked, brought up 12 months of no interest on the HD card, so I applied. By phone and email I asked about the 12 months at 0 interest, and the phone answer was that only 6 months was offered. Online, though, I saw 12 months listed for HVAC installation. My online application got me 1200, which does not cover a 12K job. To ask for a higher limit I called the number printed on the temporary card. They asked a number of questions about my credit information (such as the car loan company), which I answered correctly, but then I was handed to another person. That person asked about the residence of my niece and the birth month of my ex-husband's sister, and I said I knew neither. Next came questions on rental property owned by my twin sister, plus a few more addresses. I was refused credit anyway, on the grounds that I could not be "verified" and that online fraud rates were "high." I said the questions were irrelevant to me and my credit report.

Ashley, Judgmental Coach, and Teresa, Credit Underwriter (Tenn), told me they "can't change questions." I went into a store, and the store personnel could not believe my story and called the credit division. Stacy and Joe (Florida call center) said their source is a public database that shows up in my report. Since a bank institution had a laptop stolen years ago, I look at my credit report every month, and everything in it is correct. Why would I be able to name the birth month of my ex-husband's sister, where my twin sister's rentals are or the city her daughter lives in? WHY did a 700 credit score get me denied? Home Depot is free to decline credit, but it should say so rather than pose BOGUS questions unrelated to me.
