Fired for something customers, associates, and managers do ALL the time

I was terminated without warning for the following:
I bought valentines stuffed animals at regular price.
When they went on sale I brought in my sales slip and return it and then bought the items for the sale price. Refunding the difference to me.
We have done this many times. Never had it been told that is was against the rules. Managers have done it for their own benefit as well as ask us to do it for customers.
I was taken into a room where our asset protection coordinator was along with his supervisor and a assistant manager. He ask me to tell him about myself, asking about marriage and children. They even ask goals I had for the company. Then he said who he was and his job. After that he interrogated me like he was a FBI agent. Asking if I was someone who did something and hoped it went away or wanted to fix my mistakes. My reply was if I had done something I would hope someone would let me know so I can fix it. He ask several times did I need to talk about anything that has happened. Each reply was no. I was sitting there and was still confident I had done no wrong. I finally told him if I did something he could just say so. That's when he brought up the valentines merchandise. I even apologized explaining I didn't know we were not allowed to do that and how it was regular operations to do that. He thanked me for being honest and had me write a statement. Then ask me to go to the office with two members of management. I was ask to have a seat. Honestly I thought I would be lectured and written up. The assistant manager ask for my name badge and said she had to terminate me for company integrity. I am all for being told if I do wrong so I can correct it. I was a full time employee with 401k, insurance, and even stock in the company. I had been with the company several years and for the most part enjoyed my job. This really bothers me and I think it should have been a warning, write up if necessary but not termination.
