My Worse Nightmare

First I would like to say that I am guilty of a few things so I'm in no way a saint but I believe 99% of the people who read this would have done exactly what I did. I'm really not sure if anyone can help but I thought I'd give it a try. I was at my sons house helping him put together a gift he received for his birthday. It took us well into the evening to assemble the basketball hoop. And the luck that I have it was even missing a few small parts. I had fallen into some tuff times and was living out of my vehicle (Dog included). As I was heading to my destination I ran out of gas and had no other choice but to park in a small "stripmall" (Carwash, JiffyLube, etc) mind you that it was around 11:00PM. None of the shops were open. I did notice the "Towing Sign" but I had no other choice. Before leaving my truck and my dog I left a note on the windshield stating I had run out of gas and would return in 15min tops. I ran over to the nearest payphone which was about half a block. When I returned back to my truck, it was gone. No truck, no dog nothing. My first thought was it was stolen. I contacted the local Police and after 30min of working with the Police dispatcher and a officer we found out the truck was towed. I'm not going to get into to many details so I'll get to the Nightmare. After talking to the towing company, and explaining to them that they towed my truck with my dog in it (they did not care) the price to get my truck out was over $360.00.By the ttime I figured out where they were located it was around 1:30am. And if course they wre closed and no one in sight. Now here is where the "Guilty" part comes in. When I noticed the truck and believe it or not my dog still in the truck, I thought what should I do? After coming to a decision I jumped over the fence. "Guilty" Trespassing. My first problem. Anyway I let the dog out to go to the bathroom gave it some water (Now it's around 3:30-4:00am) So I thought I'd just sleep in the truck and wait until someone showed up. Well someone did. I was awakend to the sound of a police officer saying come out with your hands up. I was arrested for criminal trespass and criminal mischief. The towing company said that I had cut the fence, I did no such thing. It didn;t make sense. Why? Why would I cut the fence? To go where? I had no place to go anyway. My home was my truck. After I thought about it if I had not come down to be with my dog he would have had no water no food no bathroom for more then 7 hours. I did what I thought was right. I go to trial April 22nd 2010.
