Lo-Tel not paying bands:
In 2004 we had a residency at a pub called Lo-Tel on Fitzroy Street in Melbourne, Australia. We did not get paid much money but that was not an issue, we agreed on the amount before we started. We agreed to be paid on the night of the performance. When we started playing the first night our pay date was moved to the following week -Just through the manager telling us. We accepted in good faith. From that time on we were always paid one week behind and had to wait up to 2 hours after we had finished our gig just to receive that money. The residency finished up abruptly -which happens too often in the music industry but is not a major issue. We were owed one week's pay however... We revisited every week and made to wait for an hour before the manager would say that they had no money in till and we should come back next week. This went on for a few weeks until we just wrote it off as our loss.
The managers at Lo-tel in 2004 took advantage of the bands that played there. I am sure our band was not the only one in this position. I don't know if the managers there currently are the same ones when we played and I think Nick Giannopoulos is one of the owners of the bar. He was not involved in any way with this situation but I don't think he would appreciate his pub having this reputation.
