Beware the Ulta 2 Free InStyle Issues Offer! Nationwide

Miscellaneous

Ulta Stores have been doing a promotion for some time now involving two free issues of InStyle magazine. It has taken me a while to figure out what was going on, so now it's time to warn other consumers.
When you make a purchase at Ulta, you are likely to be offered two free issues of InStyle magazine at checkout. But it's only going to happen if you use a debit or credit card to pay for your purchase. There's a reason for that. After the two free issues have arrived, you will suddenly see a $24.95 charge for a magazine subscription on your bill.
Keep in mind that when this happened to me, I was never told about the pending subscription and I was never given any paperwork saying this was going to happen. The only thing the clerk said was "you're eligible for two free issues of InStyle, would you like them?" I also never received anything in the mail other than the two free issues. So until the charge showed up on my credit card, I didn't have any idea that accepting the two free issues meant I was setting myself up for a new magazine subscription.
It gots even more aggravating when I checked the subscription rates for the magazine. Had I gotten the subscription myself, a one year subscription would have been only $19.50, a 2 year subscription would have been $26.00. So I got the privledge of paying an inflated price for the subscription because I said yes to 2 free issues.
This is deception at it's finest and Ulta should be ashamed of themselves for playing this game!
