Best efforts not good enough - auto loan

I have been making my best efforts to continue to make my monthly payments to GMAC — even after my work hours have been cut back. No explanation is good enough for them — they call all hours of the day and night, send threatening letters, etc. I have even begun making my payments on line to get their money to them more quickly. Still not good enough! When does the American citizen get a "bail out" from GMAC?
