Kohls
Turning account over to credit bureau after not sending bills

Miscellaneous

On the above date (7-25-09) I purchased goods from Kohl's Dept Store and used my credit card. I was unable to pay this charge at the register as I did not have my checkbook and they will not take a debit card to pay the charged amount. They have a really good way of urging the use of their credit card due to giving the customer an additional amount off the purchase when using the Kohl's card. I never received a paper bill or a bill online. (I pay all my creditors online).in April, I opened the account with no problem due to having an excellent credit record. When I tried to pay after charging they would only accept a check, cash or money order. (Like I carry money orders around with me!) I paid the bill with a check on that day that the credit card was granted. According to the person with whom (Nbr. 8) I had registered my account on May 2 online and requested to not receive paper bills (I would not decline paper bills, due to I want these bills as proof of the account information). They said that if I opted out of paper bills, reminders would be sent by e-mail. I never received a reminder but received tons of sales events add up to 3-4 times a week. The first "reminder" that I received was a call after 10-13 asking why I had not paid my bill. I told them I had not received a bill and would have paid it promptly had I received it. They informed me that they would waive 2 months past due since I had not received notification by mail or online. All of a sudden, I began to receive all sorts of paper notifications when they had been notified that I was receiving nothing. They insisted that they could not call back the report to the credit bureaus which they had forwarded to all three credit bureaus (one customer service rep. Told me they had only sent it to only one) and I received another mail notification that they would do nothing about it even if I paid the bill as soon as I was notified. I wrote them an e-mail on the day I received the phone call and received on back stating that they would address my issue within 24 hrs. Needless to say, they never sent me an e-mail! Kolh's is participating is encouraging people to charge huge balances that they may not be able to pay off due to unemployment. Needless to say they have ruined my credit and I will file a dispute with the credit bureaus but I want at this time to warn all who have a Kohl's credit card to NOT use it. I will never shop at Kohl's again after this problem. There products are also inferior and that is why they knock off their prices. I don't think I will ever buy anything from them and would advise anybody else to boycott their stores for the following reasons and those already mentioned.

Kohl's customer service will be glad to tell a customer that they have a business relationship with Kohl's and after further conversation I managed to find out that the call center where they are located in in Central America and English is not their first language. It is an affront to me to have to explain my problem in English to someone who does not have English as a first language and does not understand it well enough to know the nuances of our language. I am also angry that an American company would outsource something as important as customer service to a Latin American country when our unemployment is at 10.8% and illegal immigration is such a issue in our country. When a company like Kohl's borrows money from Chase bank at a prime rate slightly above the Fed. Rate of 0% and charges an interest rate of 21.99%, they are making enough money to hire workers in the USA.
