Told it was against the law to cancel magazine order, threatened me to court

Miscellaneous

This happened in june 10,09. I received a call about how I could win 25,000 dollars and that all I had to do was order some magazines. I thought hey why not, I usually order from MADD to support their cause but figured since the lady was so nice on the phone why not order and maybe win some money. If I didnt win well I got some magazines out of it, no harm done.
She took my credit card info and told me it would be 58.27 for 15 months. I said okay she even offered to throw in Parents Magazine free for a year, since she heard my baby in the backround. I didnt say anything to her but everyone knows you can get that mag for free anyways without using their service. You could tell she was trying to make me feel special (whatever). After I got off the phone with her another woman called me back and asked me again do you understand that you will be billed 58.27 for the 15 months. My kids were being noisy so I went into another room and said yes. She also tryed to sell me other things and I said no to those, she really was annoying at that point.
After I got off the phone with her that second time, it made me think well do I really need thease magazines. I then started to think of my husband and how he tells me I need to watch our spending since I'm not working. I decided to call them back that exact same day and asked to cancel my order because I realized I could go without it. The woman that was once nice now became argumentive with me. She said I couldnt cancel and that I was bound to this contract by colorado state law. Then to my surprise I thought I was ordering 15 months of magazines for 58.27. I didnt realize it was 58.27 per month. I told her if I knew that I wouldnt of ordered it. I got tricked. The way she worded it was very deceiving.
She transfered me to her supervisor because I was mad. I was so emotional I even cryed on the phone. I said this just happened today. He said it was too late that the mag company had already been paid there was nothing I could do. He told me I could make a single pmt of 874.05 to pay it off. I was like what! He then offered to cut in half the 5year contract which blew me away. I didnt know I had a 5 year contract. He cut it down to 3 years and I paid him an additional 466.16. Which for some reason they charged 7 days later to my card. He threatened to come after me if I didnt pay. He told me they had my voice recorded and it was against the law to cancel. He also told me this was a one time offer, that he wouldnt be able to give me this deal again later if I called back. They had me recorded saying yes, what was I supposed to do? Is it against the law to change your mind? I am so hurt. Who has a no cancellation contract? Is this good buisness? Here I am 5 months later and still hurt by this experience. I hope thease magazine companys know that their customers are being taken advantage of threw this awful company. The funny thing too during our argument was he said he had millions of happy customers after finding this site I know hes a liar.
